Does PMView regularly check that file associations are not changed by other Win programs (that wickedly does such things )?

No, currently PMView does not do this. The installer will probably allow for this to be done though. I will see if I can enable this feature in the next version!
For now, just keep the installation file at hand and run the installation again to restore the associations.
