Hello:
I created a new image: File->New->Image, 7200w x 6000h Then I use =================================== PMView 2000 Nov 27 2000 OS/2 20.45 build 14.063 @ 1152x864, 24 bits Started Thu Dec 21 20:21:33 2000 00000000 000213:01 >IOutOfMemory exception thrown. 00000000 000213:01 > function: ICLUI_Init::newHandler() 00000000 000213:01 > file: ibase.cpp 00000000 000213:01 > line: 111 00000001 000213:01 > Error Id is 4 00000002 000213:01 > Error Code group is IBM Class Library 00000003 000213:01 > Exception text is: 00000004 000213:01 > UIL0004: Out of memory: unable to allocate memory. 00000005 000213:01 >IOutOfMemory exception thrown. 00000005 000213:01 > function: IWindow::dispatch(IEvent&) 00000005 000213:01 > file: iwindow2.cpp 00000005 000213:01 > line: 407 00000006 000213:01 > Error Id is 4 00000007 000213:01 > Error Code group is IBM Class Library 00000008 000213:01 > Exception text is: 00000009 000213:01 > UIL0004: Out of memory: unable to allocate memory. 00000010 000213:01 >IAccessError exception thrown. 00000010 000213:01 > function: IResourceLibrary::removeRef(const IPointerHandle&) 00000010 000213:01 > file: ireslib3.cpp 00000010 000213:01 > line: 304 00000011 000213:01 > Error Id is 4097 00000012 000213:01 > Error Code group is Presentation System 00000013 000213:01 > Exception text is: 00000014 000213:01 > IDESTROYPOINTER:UNK 1001 E 00000014 000213:01 > =================================== System is W4 FP13, 256mb RAM Regards, Al S. -------------------- |

Hmmm... Out of memory...
7200x6000x24/8 = 129 MB... Working with this image will require 256 MB RAM or virtual memory. Note, however, that this memory usually is available in form of SWAP space, so you don't need to have that amount of RAM. What is the size of the image you tried to paste and what application had put it on the clipboard? According to the log, your system is is WSeB (Warp 4.5). Does this also occur on Warp 4/FP13 ? FWIW, this could be a display driver issue, since the clipboard operation heavily depends on the display driver. I just tested it here. I put a 768x512 image on the clipboard. Then I selected File->New->Image, 7200x6000. Then I pasted in the image from the clipboard. No problem! The size of the image which I'm trying to paste is approximately 3600w x 5100h. It was placed in the clipboard by PMView.
I am running W4 FP13 with one of the FP14 kernels, which is why the system reports v4.5. I currently have access to only this one Warp system (I have substantially reduced the number of computers here). Video is Matrox G400 16mb AGP, 2.36.106, BIOS v1.6. I am able to paste smaller images to this large new image without problem. As I raise the size of the image placed into the clipboard, at some point PMView begins to close again. I suspect that this is a memory swapper error with this system, based upon your comments. Swap space available exceeds 1gb, but the the symptom does seem consistent. -------------------- |
