I recently moved to a newer laptop for which the recommended resolution is 1920x1080, and have installed 3.80. I'm now experiencing problems when capturing part or all of the screen:

1) When capturing an area of the screen or a window, I get an image of a different but overlapping screen area.

2) If I capture the entire screen, the image is 1536 x 864, truncating the screen on the right and bottom.

My environment is 64-bit Windows 10 Pro with an NVIDIA Quadro 1000M display adapter.

Thanks for your help!

I'm at v 3.53, and upgraded to this level after experiencing this on 3.52.

I'm scrolling through many images in a relatively deeply nested directory, and want to 'Move to' relevant images to one target directory, and then make another pass, selecting a different target directory. The problem is that the dialog box can't be re-sized; the result is that the saved targets in the drop-down list, from which I could otherwise pick a target directory, can't be differentiated, as the ends are cut off. Consequently, I have to re-navigate from c:\ every time I change target directories.

Is there a workaround?

Thanks in advance!

Try configuring PMView to use one of the other hot keys (F11 or Shift+F11) instead.

Works like a charm -- Thanks!

I've configured PMView to capture on PrintScreen. Under 3.30, this worked fine, but since installing 3.40 yesterday, no area is captured and PMView does not reappear (I've also configured it to hide during capture). At this point, in Task Manager, PMView is not listed under Applications, but does show under Processes. I have to kill the process to continue. Capture _does_ work if I configure it for Instant capture, rather than by Print Screen.

This is under up-to-date Windows XP on a Thinkpad T60.

I'm putting together a Linux box dedicated to this project...

Count me as another vote for a Linux version. I'll still be using the Win version at work, but I'm getting off Win2K at home, and have decided to switch to Linux rather than stay on the Win treadmill. And I'm not doctrinaire: while I appreciate both the beer/speech freedoms of Linux, I've also already bought (yes, paid for :-) non-free apps where they offered better functionality than the free/free stuff out there. And I haven't found anything as good, in its niche, as PMView. (That is, yes, the GIMP is good where you need the function/power, and I use if for some things, but for most of my work, PMView fits better.)

Buying Linux PMView as soon as it's available,

Makes me wonder: Has anybody experienced this problem and NOT have it go away after a reboot...

If by 'this problem', you mean the lockups on capture, yes: it happens every day. It doesn't necessarily happen the first time and, indeed, it may be aggravated by loading Eclipse before PMView, but it invariably happens at some point. I'm currently working on some documentation, doing a lot of screen captures, and I usually have to reboot several times a day.

I just started experiencing this today (with v3.23) after installing Rational ClearCase. This is on a Thinkpad T40. In my case, it locks instantly after selecting the capture method (screen/window/area). I've configured PMView to capture on Ctl-PrtSc, but I never get that far. I don't know whether ClearCase is a common factor -- I doubt it, but thought I'd throw that out for what it's worth.

I'm using PMView 3.23 for Windows, though I beleive that this has occurred in previous versions. The scenario:

1) I'm configured to activate capture by PrintScreen.
2) I select Capture -> Area of Screen.
3) The screen is not ready for capture (not on top, or something on the screen isn't right), or I mis-select the area and need to reselect. So...
4) I hit Esc, hoping to cancel and return to PMView. But PMView terminates.

Not a major issue, and I may be doing something wrong (e.g. if there's a way to return that I'm not aware of). But any suggestions are appreciated!

I should have experimented mor first: '.\' works, so it's not so bad.

Also, in the File Open Window you can simply left-click on a file name to edit it. (If the file is not selected, the first click will select it. Then click a second time on the text to edit it. This applies to Windows. On OS/2 you need to press the ALT key).

Oops -- I neglected to address this in the other post. The problem here is that, in the Open window, the image is not large enough to see what it should be named. So I'm back to the Open/Look/Close/Rename scenario again.

File->Move is the way to go, if only it would default to the current path.

Dejectedly,

Greg

"File->Move to" can be used for renaming. (Don't enter a new path. Just change the file name).

Oops -- I expressed my gratitude too soon -- a new path is absolutely required, thus greatly hindering the usefulness of this approach.

Assuming that you have described it as it _should_ work, I hope a fix is forthcoming :-(

You can assign a hot key to this function if you wish (View->Preferences, Shortcut Keys).

YES! Many thanks!

I don't see a request for this, though I made have missed it.

It would be wonderful to have a Rename function available within the viewer, perhaps driven by a ctl-key combination like Delete.

For instance, if I have a directory of images from a digital camera or scanner, they're all named something like 'xxxxxxxxx.JPG', where 'xxxxxxxx' is some arbitrary, sytem-generated value. I want to rename the images appropriately, but currently I have to either open the image to see what it is and manually rename outside PMView, or Save As, and then delete the original.

It would be very helpful to hit CTL-(something), enter a new name, and go on.

Thanks,

Greg

[quote=(The reason for delaying the implementation is because screen refresh will be noticably slower. Many people will not want to use a PMView version that implements this, just because it is much slower than the "normal" version that most people are happy with).
[/quote]

I'll add a vote for this enhancement with two comments. First, would it be possible to turn it on and off (for purposes of performance when not needed)?

Second, if I paste an image containing transparent areas over another, I'd like to see the underlying image show through to be assured that I've alligned them properly. Naturally, I _don't_ expect true layering after the paste is confirmed.

Thanks!
