I am trying to get used to Windows 7 lunacy, but on it the current version of PMView keeps telling me I don't have permission to access pictures on backup drives (something I see every other minute under Win 7).

I discovered that older versions of PMView do not have this issue.

But the installer software, assuming there is some, is on the crashed computer. And I haven't been able to find an installer for an older version. Aren't these stored somewhere?

I just installed v. 3.8. Apparently it can't see my wireless printer. The previous version had printed to both USB and wireless. This one tells me the spooler isn't running, but other apps print fine.

I have an Epson Artisan 710 all-in-one printer. When I set it up to print in grayscale from a grayscale image in PMView Pro (converted to grayscale and printed by PMView Pro 3.64), it prints out in shades of black and pink instead of shades of black and white (grayscale). And the dark magenta cartridge goes down a couple times faster than all other colors when I print grayscale images.

I use FireFox 3.6.13 which loads the exact same images and prints them properly in shades of black and white; that is, grayscale.

I also have Gimp2 which loads the exact same images and prints them properly in shades of black and white; that is, grayscale.

Internet Explorer also puts out proper grayscale prints from the same grayscale images.

How do I switch PMV to grayscale instead of muavescale? blink.gif

A line in the Helps says:

The filters in this menu let you enhance or find edges in the image.

This obviously effects broad areas very nearly as much as edges, apparently because of a rather micro effect of the algorithms. Is there any way to get a macro effect that will locate contrasting edge lines instead of working over entire areas?

Adobe Photoshop

Thanks for reminding me that this feature needs to be added to PMView.

Thanks, but everyone knows about Photoshop. I was hoping for something affordable.

Can someone recommend an app for windows that does PMView type things like soften, sharpen, etc., only within described areas rather than the entire image?

Jim,

Please e-mail peter@pmview.com and I will re-send the info.

Thanks,
Peter

Thanks, but I don't know what former email address I used originally.

Actualy when I updated my original copy a couple days ago the registration info popped up and I had presence of mind to write it down.

I'm upgrading to a newer upgraded computer, but I seem to have lost my list of software registrations so I can put PMView on it.

I've reinstalled PMView on the old computer before and the installer automatically found the previous registration. Is there any way to pull this off on the new computer without the actual registration number in hand?

The industry standard behaviour

OK. You've made your point. A user should not want to flip instantly between two images.

Is there any chance that the directory tree in the left pane could shift to the right when a click brings up a deeper level? That is, any newly displayed sub-directory would appear within the pane. Or at least any + marks would.

As it is, when near the edge of the pane, clicking the + mark on a sub-directory always displays the deeper level to the right outside the pane - at least it does here.

I suppose an alternative would be to do as some mail or news programs do - have a single click that opens the tree pane into the whole screen (a second click would return it).

The button with two green arrows will bring up the last image I displayed on a previous PMView session.

How do I get it to bring up the last image displayed in the CURRENT session?

Very often I wish to compare two images quickly, but the recall button always gives me not the previous image but the one I am already on - useless.

If this is not supposed to actually recall the previous image I propose that it should.

The screen capture function always uses the bit depth of the display. If the captured data does not contain more than 2 colors, you can simply do a Color->Convert to->Indexed 256 (or Black & White) and you should end up with a monocrome image.

Thanks,
Peter

The output needs to be black and white, but I get this gaining or losing of edges when I convert out of deep color. Should that vary with the format? So that BPM might work better than JPG?

How can I prevent a B&W text capture (prep for OCR) from being instantly converted to deep color?

Thanks
