Running a dual Athlon with 512 Mb RAM and latest Snap video. System locks up requiring hard reset after viewing variable number of jpeg photos on either HD or CDROM. Same behavior with last three versions of PMview. Hang occurs after 5 to 40 images. Regularly run Unimaint and cleanini. Setting all exe and dlls to single CPU with execmode did not alter behavior. Love the program, but hate to use it because know I'll have to reboot a couple of times.

I have seen this too. The SNAP drivers seem to have a multithreading problem.
I'm using the Matrox driver myself, because of this SNAP SMP problem. I suggest you contact Scitech with a bug report. FWIW, pull one CPU and you'll see that everything works fine. Seems like Scitech did their quality testing on a single CPU machine. I've been using a 4-CPU machine for PMView development since 1995... Oh... BTW, the lockup is not the major problem. The PAINT ERRORS with the Scitech drivers on an SMP system are the worst.
Here on my 4-CPU system, I saw painting errors. Applications wouldn't referesh correctly or paint in the wrong location. Again, the same driver works just fine on Warp 4 non-SMP... It is a multiprocessing problem (that only occurs in an SMP environment with more than one CPU). Regarding SNAP drivers, I had the same problwm with the earlier SciTech drivers provided by IBM. However, I just installed the testcase JFS fix and haven't had a hang. Perhaps too early to be sure the problem is fixed, but it appears to be.

I have the same problem. I have dual athlon mp 2400+ and pmview hangs very often on saving new files, on viewing some pictures. It can be jpg, png, I think any types....
And a second problem In open file dialog i see white lines on thumbnails. What is it? You can look at it here: http://home.kamuzon.ru/graf/pmviewshit.png How I can fix it? I cant work so.

Oh. After pmview hangs I can get often "list of programms" by periodical pressing ctrl-esc and then I can kill it by del.

I ask one man to test pmview on smp system but with standart video drivers. PMview crash on 30 files. There is no JFS partions on that system.
What should I do? |

Clearly, you have some driver in your system that is not SMP compatible.
PMView is verified to work well on SMP. Currently I have several OS/2 machines here with 4x333MHz (IBM704) and one machine with 8x550MHz (IBM8500R) and they both run PMView without any crashing problems whatsoever. PMView has been DEVELOPED on a 4-processor machine since August 1995 and on an 8-processor machine since 2001. The 8-CPU is my daily work machine, so if there were any SMP issues I would definitely be aware of them by now... BTW, network card drivers have often caused strange errors. That might be worth looking into...

Also, are you sure that this is really an SMP issue? Do the crashes stop if you run with only one CPU installed?
