In PMView Pro, I'm am glad to see the JPEG Lossless functions. I have many digital pictures taken in portrait mode (by holding camera at 90 degree angle) that I need to rotate without degrading picture further.
The manual states that these are only available if the image is in the JFIF file format?? I can't find any more info on what this format is and I've never heard of it... anyone care to explain. Thanks! |

JFIF = JPEG File Interchange Format.
JFIF is the most common JPEG standard used today. (JPEG is the name of the compression technique). PMView writes JFIF files when saving. There are many other file formats using JPEG, both proprietary and non-proprietary. For example JPEG-in-TIFF, which is a standard JFIF stream embedded in a TIFF file. There is TIFF JPEG which is not at all compatible with JFIF. There is Pegasus PIC which is a proprietary JPEG format, etc...
