There is a problem to open Tiff (or Jpeg) file having some symbols from some European languages (such as O with dots, or A with dots). The program reports usupported file format. If to rename the file, everything works well. I did not find the solution in Preferences or somewhere else. Is it possible to correct?
Hmm.. The problem I was referring to was such that even Windows itself could not open the file.
I just tried renaming a file to "L'image à côté de moi.jpg". PMView sees it, and opens it just fine. "Scandinaver ÅÄÖåäö.jpg" also works just great...
Could you please give an example of a file name that PMView cannot open?
Thanks,
Well, after some tests it seems that a problem in a path name identification. To put it more precisely in incompatibility with code pages (particularly Russian one).
1. If it is
e:\Pitäjänkartta 1-20 000.tiff
everything works well. PMView sees the file and opens it.
2. But if it is
E:\Rubbish\Maps\Карельский перешеек\Pitäjänkartta 1-20 000.tiff
PMView does not see the file and does not open it saying "Cannot open file". But it shows a full path name (at the bottom) correct...
Карельский перешеек - it is in Russian
I am not sure that it is a problem of PMView, perhaps of W2k...
Regards,
I can now easily repeat the problem here.
The problem is that PMView is not a UNICODE enabled application. One good reason for this is because UNICODE enabled applications do not run on Windows 95/98.
I'm currently looking into making a future version of PMView Unicode enabled without dropping 95/98 support or releasing two different versions. (Several solutions to the problem have been made available lately).
Thanks,
