Hello, First, I want to say THANK YOU. I have been using PMView and PMView Pro for many years with pleasure. Although I bought the upgrade to Pro in 2003, I used the program in the heyday of OS/2 as well. Windows 7 + SP1 PMView Pro 3.64 Mozilla Thunderbird 3.1.9 As a new user of Windows 7, I have encountered a minor problem. When a photo is received as an email attachment, it can't be rotated unless I detach it from the email. The error message received is shown in the file uploaded. Again, not a big problem, but a minor irritation. Mike |

The default file associations for PMView under Windows include MSP files (Microsoft Paint). Current versions of Paint do NOT use this extension; they use common formats like BMP, JPG, PNG, etc.
More importantly, MS now uses .msp for Windows Installer patch files. If they become associated with PMView, it can be hellish to get them to install! I am an experienced computer user (since 1966), but it took me over an hour of Googling and fiddling around to get them re-associated with Windows Installer once PMView had grabbed them. As you know, file association is MUCH less transparent under Windows than on OS/2. MY SUGGESTION is to remove MSP as a default association of PMView, as soon as possible. |

Hi Peter; thanks for the reply.
Yes, I think "auto-expand" is probably the right term. Most Windows applications seem to do this now, and it is a convenience. Mike |

Peter,
Sorry to hear you could not replicate the problem I reported. Was my report clear that the crash occurs only when enlarging the selection rectangle indirectly -- that is, by using the selection information window? The problem does not occur when enlarging the rectangle directly in the image window. Furthermore, it only occurs when I try to enlarge the rectangle beyond the image borders (top or bottom -- I have not tried sides). I have not installed any user-interface enhancers or add-ons that I can recall. The problem occurs for me on two machines (both dual processor), one with Intel P-III chips and the other with AMD Athlon chips. Thanks for your prompt replies. ------------------ |

I am using PMView 2.32 on Windows 2000 Professional (SP2). A bug introduced recently (including 2.31) is in cropping. Display the selection information window. Try to move the selection rectangle beyond the limits of the image by using the mouse or keyboard in the selection information window. Then, a single beep occurs and the program freezes. Of course, one would only do this by mistake, but it is a bad response to a user error.

I periodically update shareware I use. The Web site list the latest revision of PMView as 2000, version 2.1. When I click "Help, About" in my copy, PMView just shows
"PMView 2000." How to know what revision number one has? ...Mike |

Two related suggestions for enhancement to the (Windows version) of PMView 2000.
A file can be moved by drag-and-drop of the thumbnail from the File Open dialog. However, the left panel (list of folders)doesn't scroll if the cursor (with dragged file) is moved to top or bottom. Suggestion #1: It should scroll and closed folders should open to display the subdirectory structure if a the mouse hovers over them. If the desired folder is offscreen on the left, how to cancel the move? If the file is moved back to the original spot, an annoying dialog box appears, requiring confirmation ("Cannot move..."). Suggestion #2: Let this fail silently, either always or at the user's option. Thanks for considering these. It's great to have PMView available on Windows -- I missed it for a long time after leaving OS/2. ...Mike |
