Full Version: Lack of Permissions?

Hello Peter,

I have recently upgraded my system from NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 and have re-installed all of my programs including PMView2000.

The problem is that I can't delete or rename new or existing folders from with-in the "file open" window.

I've checked to make sure that I (the adminstrator) have full controll and all appears to be correct.

The other copy of PMView2000 (which is on my old drive running under NT40) exhibits the same problems when running under Windows2000 but not when I start the computer running NT4. What am I missing?

Thank You.

Mark, I just tried it here on Windows 2000 and it works flawlessly.

Try doing it in Windows Explorer. I'm pretty sure it will complain about the permissions as well. In this case you can rule out the possibility that the problem is in PMView. If Windows Explorer also complains, then the problem is in your setup.

The most likely problem is that the permissions are not right. You should find a thorough explanation about the permission issues and how to change permissions in any good Windows 2000 book.

Good morning again Peter,

I just tried the explorer example and this works OK. I can create, delete and rename fine from within explorer.

Of all the programs I've re-installed, PMView2000 is the only program that is exhibiting this behavior.

I've also noticed that it takes exactly 3 seconds to delete a file from within PMView2000 once the "Delete" key is depressed. These two actions somehow have to be linked. Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Mark Field
Peter
Are you using PMView v2.20 ?

Hello Peter,

It just says PMView2000 from the help/about on the menu.

Thanks again,

Then you have v2.00. Please upgrade to v2.20 that includes the following bug fix:

[i:post_uid0]File Open/Save dialogs: It is not possible to rename or delete folders. The menu entries for these functions are grayed out. (This problem appears under Windows 2000 only).[/i:post_uid0]
