I Just downloaded the latest version and I cannot install it on my Windows95 laptop. The install program start. The "Welcome..." dialogue is displayed. When I press the "Next>" button, the program closes with no errors.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Thanks,
Harry.

That is weird. It sounds like a problem in the WISE install program.

Possibly a DLL that Wise uses is missing on your system, or the installer file is damaged...

I would suggest that you re-download the latest version. If that doens't help, then try installing it on another system and copy the installed files. That should work.

Thanks,
Peter

Thanks Peter. I followed your suggestion, and I managed to install PMview with no problems.
Now, how can I determine what WISE is looking for that it cannot find?
Thanks,
Harry.

I just tried installing PMView v3.23, english, build 23581 on a "virgin" installation of Windows 95 SE (PMView's system info says that the Operating System is Windows 95, version 4.0 B, build 1111). It works fine here. DEPENDS.EXE shows that the following Windows 95 DLLs are used by Wise installer:

c:\windows\system\ADVAPI32.DLL
c:\windows\system\GDI32.DLL
c:\windows\system\KERNEL32.DLL
c:\windows\system\USER32.DLL

All files are dated 08/24/1996 11:11am

Hope this info helps to figure out where the problem is. (Possibly you're using the "original" first edition of Windows 95 which might explain why I can't repeat the problem here on the second edition...)

Anyway, since there are no Wise updates, there's really not anything I can do to solve the problem. The workaround is to use a more recent version of Windows (95 SE or newer) to do the installation and then copy the files...

Thanks,
