When I load a file having 16 bits per color (like 48 bit TIFF), how is the conversion done to internal 8 bits per color format?

Clip at amplitude value 255 ?
Or discard lower 8 bits ?
Or map lowest and highest amplitude values to 0 and 255 ?

Would it be difficult to implement 16 bit color processing in a future version of PMView?

Currently PMView discards the lower 8 bits.

A future version will support 16 bit color processing.
