The full, registered, version of PMView 3.52 will not install on Winodws 98SE. An older version, 3.05, installs successfully.

Details:

On the current version, the installer screen starts, then a message box pops up stating "Could not load the DLL library C:Windows\temp\glf6122.tmp A device attached to the system is not functioning." On clicking the 'OK' button, the installer closes. The name of the DLL library file is different on every attempt.

On the older version, after the installer screen has opened, a PMView flash screen is displayed, then a registration screen asking for user name, serial and registration code, finally installation starts and a number of files with similar names to the one that causes the current version installation to fail flash up as the installation progresses.

It appears that the current version attempts to load at least one DLL library before the registration screen has been completed.

Please advise how to avoid this problem.

TIA

Jim

PS. My apologies if a similar message appears on the forum. I attempted to post it earlier today but it has not been published.

Jim,

The migration DLL in PMView v3.52 uses SHGetFolderPath, a function that according to Microsoft "requires Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 5.0 or Windows 98 Second Edition (SE)".

Apparently the Microsoft information is incorrect, and SHGetFolderPath is not available on your system.

Is IE 5.0 (or later) with the latest fixes installed on the machine?

Please check that you have SHELL32.DLL on your system and that the version number of the DLL is 5.0 or later. Installing/upgrading this DLL should solve the problem.

Thanks,
Peter

P.S. v3.51 should work fine in Win 98SE, since it does not have the new Vista code.
