I tried to get this working under wine (the Windows emulator). Would it be difficult to compile the code using the wine libraries directly?

Unfortunately it is not as easy as that. PMView depends on the IBM open class libraries. Porting them to WINE is not possible...

A Linux version of PMView will be available in the future.

Yes, I'm looking into that. Now it should be possible to compile it with WineLib smile.gif

I 2nd the motion version for a Linux version. I've been a registered user of both Win and OS/2 versions for years now (since early 1.xx versions), but have recently moved over to Linux. Would LOVE to have PMview back again.

Cheers
Kev

I'm putting together a Linux box dedicated to this project...

I've had PMView 2.xx working fine under Crossover Office on Xandros 3.0.2, but it interacts badly with Konserve, causing Konserve to fail in its backing up process. I experimented enough to confirm this clash, but I'm simply not techo enough to go any deeper.

Bring on the native Linux version biggrin.gif

Do make it a Debian based system pleezze. Xandros would be a really good choice. biggrin.gif

I hope there will be an X86_64 version because I don't run any 32 bit software.

Actually, I do have a 64-bit Windows XP version. If interested, e-mail me.

Count me as another vote for a Linux version. I'll still be using the Win version at work, but I'm getting off Win2K at home, and have decided to switch to Linux rather than stay on the Win treadmill. And I'm not doctrinaire: while I appreciate both the beer/speech freedoms of Linux, I've also already bought (yes, paid for :-) non-free apps where they offered better functionality than the free/free stuff out there. And I haven't found anything as good, in its niche, as PMView. (That is, yes, the GIMP is good where you need the function/power, and I use if for some things, but for most of my work, PMView fits better.)

Buying Linux PMView as soon as it's available,

Greg

Sounds great - PMView is one of the things I've been missing since I migrated from eCS and to OpenSUSE.

Add me, too. I kept OS/2 on my older private computers, but I'm not sure if I would reinstall in on a new one...just for a few personal programs (and PMView) left as a reason :(
In the meantime it would be nice to know how to get PMView running in wine if there's no
Windoze installed on the machine? Is it possible? My attempt to run the installer in wine failed. Maybe install it on another Win machine and copy it to the Linux box?

The plans are still there, but the resources to fulfill them are not.

Thanks,
Peter

I can confirm that PMView work under Wine on Linuxes. Install on Windows machine and then copy PMView directory to Linux machine. Open terminal window, go to directory where PMView.exe reside and type 'wine PMView.exe' (case sensetive!). As I can test, every funtion of PMView works 100%. There is no left over dll's, all You need is in this directory.

tested is with:
PMView Pro v3.12
XandrOS for eeePC 1.0.2.15, KDE 3.4.2

I use unregistered version, so on start show nag screen. Im not sure is it possible to register it under wine, and I have no reg key to test, but I beleive this will also work. If anyone need it for Linux/Wine and have no working Win machine arround, I can send fresh install for that purpose. Or demand from Peter to put in download section such choice !

Just tried this under Ubuntu 10.04 and it both installs and runs fine smile.gif

Just bought myself a Windows license - but made clear in the comments on the order form that I'll be running it under linux smile.gif
