QUOTE (Peter @ Nov 20 2006, 09:55 AM) *
I just installed VP here. Capture still works fine. No problems.

Have you tried rebooting? (The one and only time I saw the capture problem, it went away after a reboot never to be seen again).

Thanks,
Peter

Correct, it works now. I don't remember if I rebooted before using PMView the first time.

Capture does not work well when a Microsoft Virtual PC session is running, no matter if it is visible or not.

Capture Window hides PMView but then the desktop gets frozen. Same with Capture Area of Screen.

Capture Screen works.

I was thinking more about menues and stuff that are incorporated in the exe file now as I understand it - I don't see any resource files. An example is the OS/2 standard "E" editor that turns into Swedish on my desktop.

I don't like HTML help either, at least as it's implemented in Windows, and even worser in VisualAge C++. On the contrary, the NewView app is great with the IPF files, so I certainly prefer that format.

I'm not sure if I could do a translation, since it's time-consuming, but I sent a message to the Swedish OS/2 User Group about your offer. At least one member there seems happy to do translations.

Actually, "sv_fi" means "Finland Swedish" just like "en_gb" means "Great Britain English". It's selectable in Lotus Word Pro, although "sv_se" is what I use.

As I understand, there are different applications for different languages. Wouldn't it be easier to have one localisable application, so people could help submit translations? I could to sv_se and Peter could do sv_fi for instance smile.gif

QUOTE (Guest)
As many people know, Internet Explorer for Windows has limited support for transparency in PNG images. However, it should support 1-bit transparency, for instance you can declare one colour in the colourmap as transparent.
I have a two-colour (black and white) image of which I would like to have the white part transparent. The colour palette shows two colours only, first white and then black. When saving, I select transparency and index 0. It does not become transparent. However, when I try various conversions and end up with a 12-colour palette, transparency works at index 0 for some reason. The image looks bad though.
PMView apparently takes away unnecessary colours from the palette when saving, so converting to 256 colours, all black and white, won't work.
I'm aware that the fault is with IE's bad rendering, but is there any way to work around this?

Replying to myself.

This is strange, but I found that as long as the palette contains grayscale only, no matter if there are just two or more colours, Internet Explorer doesn't give you a transparent background. However, if one colour is changed to "not grayscale", for example change white from 255, 255, 255 to 254, 255, 255, the background gets transparent!

PMView cannot save transparency masks. The only way to achieve transparency when saving is to use a transparent color.

What you're doing will work fine, however you need to invoke Color->Convert to Black&White before saving the file.

Auto-creation of a multi-level opacity mask is out of the scope of PMView. I recommend using the GIMP or Photoshop for this task. However, I doubt this will help. I'm sceptical to whether today's web browsers can use files with an alpha channel (opacity mask). Even if it works in one browser, I bet it won't work in all browsers (IE, Opera, Netscape, Mozilla...). My guess is that they will read the file without problem but they will not use the alpha channel data and the result is an image that is not transparent at all. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

I think it should be explained in the documentation that PMView cannot save transparency masks, or rather what you can and can't do with PMView.

Yes, I have now used GIMP to create the semi-transparent image. Current browsers can handle such images, except Internet Explorer for Windows, which may be considered a legacy browser these days, although you can't ignore it as long as it has most of the browser market.

Some sites returns different images for current and legacy browsers. Using that technique, semi-transparent PNG's can be used. For now, I'll stick with one-colour transparency.

There are demos here for those who are interested in how images are rendered (or ignored!) in different browsers:
