Windows 10 May 2020 update breaks the PMView screen capture and may also cause lost resolution if the Windows display scaling is set to anything but 100%

Fortunately the problem is user fixable this time. To fix it:

-Make sure you have the latest PMView version (v3.82 or newer)
-Right click on the PMView icon and select "properties".
-Click the "Compatibility" tab.
-Click the "Change high DPI settings".
-Finally check the "Override" button and choose "Application".

Enjoy!

Hi Toby,

An option to disable the mouse wheel in PMView was added in v3.20, released 10/10/2005, almost 15 years ago smile.gif

Go to the Special/TWAIN settings page and uncheck the "Mouse wheel loads next/previous image" option. This will change the function of the mouse wheel to do scrolling instead.

That said, I agree it would be nice if it was possible to let the mouse wheel zoom, so in PMView v3.82 the checkbox is replaced with a drop down selection that lets you choose the desired function:

- No function
- Load next/previous image
- Zoom in/out
- Scroll up/down

Thanks,
Peter

I store my pictures on a server and keep a local browse library, max. size 2000x2000 on the computer. Have a Quick Script for the purpose. Most exif information -but not the location lat/lon - is transferred to the new copy. This is also th copy I take to google Photos which subsequently ask for the location. Arrrghh..

I am on PMViewPro 3.81

I have found and fixed the problem. This is an unfortunate and unintended side effect of working around a problem with EXIF files that have incorrectly stored Interoperability identification tags with tag value 0.

The fix will be in v3.82

Yes. I really consider this a "bug" that needs to be fixed. However, in reality it's a "missing feature" because it's not an easy fix. Making this work right requires adding code for handling the scaling correctly.

This and adding support for the webp format is on top oof the "todo" list.

Thanks,

Peter

Make sure the Windows Display Settings are set to scale 100%. If the display scaling is not set to 100%, then the problem you describe will show. PMView currently only supports capture of Windows Screens without scaling (i.e. 100%).

I'd like to know too. Lack of release notes kind of makes me suspicious that it isn't official, and possibly contains malware.

Anyone actually tried it?

Graham.

It's official. The OS/2 v3.80 is identical to v3.79.

The Windows version of v3.80 addresses a problem that appeared with the initial release of the Windows 10 Creator's update. (It was apparently not only PMView that was affected by this problem, and Microsoft later also addressed this with an update, with the effect that very few people actually need the v3.80 release).

Thanks,
Peter

QUOTE (skydvrz @ Oct 11 2017, 06:01 PM) *
PMView is a great product! I have been a licensed user for many years - all the way back to the OS/2 days. I use it almost daily.

I have a dual monitor setup where the desktop spans the two monitors. I can capture the screen of the monitor PMView is sitting on, but I can't capture the opposite monitor. I tried straddling the two screens - no help. I tried capturing Area of Screen and the selection box won't allow me to straddle the two monitors - only the one PMView is sitting on.

Is there some trick I am missing?

I am using PMView Pro v3.80, 64-bit version on Win10 Pro-64. The monitors are set up for 1680x1050. The display adapter is a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PMView has multi-monitor support. However, it is limited to capturing one monitor at a time. (You need to move the PMView main window into the monitor you want to capture).

Capturing multiple monitors at the same time is no easy task since Windows lets you run the monitors at different sizes and resolutions.

Thanks,
Peter

PMView 64 bit won't install when the install .exe is run from a Windows 10 Standard account as it tries to write to c:/pmview/.
It should prompt for administrator permission.

Should be fixed in the v3.79 installer

QUOTE (Swifty @ Nov 28 2014, 07:35 AM) *
If I accidentally click to expand "Homegroup" under Open->File (or ->Save for that matter). then PMView fails (as in "PMView PRO has stopped working")

I seem to recall that this started when I upgraded my home PC from an old XP system to Win7 Ultimate on a much faster system. I never had much use for "Homegroup" though. I'm just tired of clicking the wrong "+" and having to start from scratch again. Both x64 and x32 versions fail (3.75 right now)

I've registered this problem with Technical Support, but thought I'd ask here in case anyone has a workaround.

It is quite probable that I've not setup a "Homegroup", but having PMView fail is a bit extreme...

This will be fixed in v3.77

Thanks,
Peter

I see. You're looking for GeoTag support. I will add this in the next verision!
